Rahul Dravid officially inducted in ICC Hall of Fame

Former Indian captain, Rahul Dravid has officially been inducted in the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame.

Dravid, who is currently serving as India U-19 & A Coach becomes the 87th cricketer overall to join the coveted list.

Back in July, the ICC announced to honour Dravid, Former Aussie captain Ricky Ponting and the erstwhile English wicket-keeper batsman Claire Taylor for their stupendous achievements to the game of cricket during a ceremony in Dublin.

Dravid is the 5th Indian cricketer to be inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame; joining the likes of Bishan Singh Bedi, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble.

What he said:

“It is a matter of great honour to be named by the ICC in the Cricket Hall of Fame,” Dravid was quoted as saying. “To find your name in a list of all-time greats across generations is something one only dreams of while setting out on a cricket career and the kind of recognition that would delight any player.

He  further added, “I’m thankful to my near and dear ones as well as players I have played with and against, coaches and officials who have backed me over the years and helped me develop as a cricketer. I would also like to thank the KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) and the BCCI for all the support over the years and the ICC for recognising my achievements and picking me in this group of Hall of Fame inductees.”

  • Fourth highest run-getter in Test Cricket [13,288 runs at 51.85]
  • Most Number of catches in Test Cricket [210].
  • ICC Cricketer of the Year & ICC Test Player of the year in 2004.
  • Most Number of balls faced in Test cricket [31,258].
  • Only Indian captain to win a Test series in England (2007) in the 21st century.
  • First Indian captain to win a Test series in the Caribbean after 1971 (1-0 in 2006)
  • First Indian captain to win a Test in South Africa (at Johannesburg in 2007)
  • Under Dravid, India created a World record of 17 successful run chases in ODI Cricket.

BCCI Felicitates Dravid at Thiruvananthapuram

Dravid, who spearheaded India U-19 World Cup triumph, earlier this year was felicitated by the Board of Cricket for Control in India on Thursday in Thiruvananthapuram ahead of the fifth ODI encounter between India and Windies, where he was awarded a memento by fellow Hall of Famer Sunil Gavaskar.
