Adil Rashid has been recalled to England’s Test squad against India.

Adil Rashid will be making a comeback to the red-ball cricket for the first time since December 2016.

Essex seamer Jamie Porter has also received a maiden Test call-up as England named a 13-man squad for the first Test to take on India in the first clash at Edgbaston, scheduled to begin from August 1.

It also comes as a comeback call for Moeen Ali who was overlooked after the end of a torrid Ashes winter but he has earned a comeback call-up following a solid white-ball campaign against Australia and India.

Speaking on the selection, Chief selector Ed Smith has clarified that Rashid will be needing a county contract to be picked in 2019 season.

“Adil Rashid will also be returning to the England Test squad. Adil had confirmed his availability to play the longest format of the game for the whole of this summer and the upcoming tours to West Indies and Sri Lanka,” he said.

“Following his decision of February, Rashid only has a white-ball contract to play for Yorkshire. But, Adil completely understands that if he wants to play Test cricket in 2019, he needs to have a county cricket for playing a four-day cricket,” he added.

This is in spite of the fact that Rashid has not played red-ball cricket since signing a limited-overs contract with Yorkshire back in February.

It will be for the second time this summer that the new chief selector, Ed Smith has made a Test selection considering a player’s white-ball form.

They had earlier recalled Jos Buttler for the Pakistan series in May this year.

Rashid played his last Test for England back in 2016 against India in Chennai. He has played 10 Tests and has 38 wickets to his name so far.

England Squad for the first Test:

Joe Root (capt), James Anderson, Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Stuart Broad, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Dawid Malan,  Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Ben Stokes, Jamie Porter
