The rising cases of covid have kept everyone on the hook for the next few weeks. The widespread increase in each state has also brought casualties in the country due to the pressure of ventilators and ICU Beds. Although the franchises in the IPL have made necessary arrangements and have kept the players safe from the pandemic, the cricketers, as well as coaches, are concerned about the health of people in the country. It is being said that Indian players can get vaccinated from Saturday onwards and a decision will soon be taken for overseas players.

David Warner and Steve Smith to pull out of IPL 2021?

Cricket Australia source has confirmed the AUS players in IPL are willing to stay till the end of the tournament. “The players are intending to remain until the end of the tournament unless something changes dramatically. The media reports citing otherwise are incorrect,” said the source.

Amid a surge in covid cases, the likes of Andrew Tye, Kane Richardson, and Adam Zampa pulled out of IPL. This was also linked with the Australian government closing its borders for people coming from India. Today, a decision was made by the Australian government to stop flights coming from Indian until May 15. Currently, there are a total of 14 Australian players playing in the IPL.

Another report came from a reputed News Agency, 9News. They reported, “Australian cricketers including David Warner and Steve Smith are now hoping to be flown home to India before borders shut. We have got 30 players, coaches, and commentators that are very keen to get out of India naturally given the deteriorating situation that they are facing health-wise right across the country,” 9News report added.

But nothing concrete has yet come up in reference to the players like Steve Smith and David Warner returning to Australia.

What Chris Lynn and Coulter Nile said on current situation?

The Mumbai Indians opener Chris Lynn and bowler Nathan Coulter Nile have spoken about the current situation amid rising cases in India. After the flights were banned, Lynn hopes that Australian players would get a private charter plane for returning to Australia post IPL.

“I know there are people worse off than us. But we are going from a really tight bubble and are getting vaccinated next week so hopefully, the government will let us get home on a private charter,” Lynn said to Corp Media.

While Nathan Coulter Nile has also been vocal about his thoughts about the present situation and says that bio-bubble is safer than returning to home.

“We have a rapid response test in the morning ahead of another test later in the day, and then one at night as well. And that’s for everyone – players, staff, the people who do laundry, cleaners, everyone.

“In terms of testing, they are pretty onto it. I’m as confident (in the bubble) as you can be. All the protocols and measures are in place, I can’t think of anything more we could be doing”. Coulter Nile added.
