KULDEEP SHOULD NOT PLAY AHEAD OF ASHWIN

Kuldeep Yadav who is just 23 years old is being seen as having as good a chance as established veterans Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja of playing the first Test.

However, former Australian first-class batsman Mike Hussey is of the opinion that Ashwin remains India’s No.1 Test spinner.

“Kuldeep is a promising bowler and performed really well in recent. But even then, personally, I feel Kuldeep should not play at the expense of Ashwin. I think Ashwin deserves his spot in Playing 11 as he has been a brilliant Test match bowler for a long period of time,” Hussey was quoted as saying.

“He has over 300 Test wickets to his credit plus England have many left-handers batsmen and Ashwin can play a big role. There is still plenty of time left for Kuldeep as he is young. Let him keep learning all along the way but if there is an injury or any other problem, he can come to the rescue.”

ENGLAND IS A STRONG TEAM: HUSSEY

“England are a very powerful squad in home grounds, so understand the conditions. They get a lot of confidence and morale boosting from their crowds. I think India have some great support as well. It should be an interesting series for both the squad,” said Hussey.

When Hussey was asked if veterans players James Anderson and Stuart Broad would have a big role in the series, he responded in the positive.

“You should know it for yourself. Yes, better cricket may have been behind them but you still can’t ignore them. Great players always come back and show their class. They always try to pose a threat. They are amazing competitors, and perhaps will show their skills in this series,” he said.
