Cape Town Blitz’s star performer Anrich Nortje has been forced to withdraw from the Mzansi Super League due to an injury to the ankle. He will be replaced by left-arm seamer Nandre Burger.

Sad to leave Cape Town Blitz: Nortje

Nortje stole the limelight in the Mzansi Super League with his terrific pace bowling. The South African bowler clocked 150 km/ph and garnered eyeballs. He claimed eight wickets in three matches and his wickets include some big names such as Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks.

Nortje said that unfortunately, he had to make a decision that he will no longer be taking part in the Mzansi Super League.

He explained that he had to leave the team after the abandoned match against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, and will be having surgery on Friday, November 30th to remove a small piece of bone that has broken off.

Cape Town can finish on top: Nortje

He noted that he is really sad to be leaving it, but he is hopeful that he can be back next year and back in Cape Town. He is also hoping that his team can win the tournament this year because he feels that they are in a really good position, and if they keep on with the momentum they have, they can finish on top.

Nortje one for the future for South Africa: Prince

The coach of the team Ashwell Prince said that it is really unfortunate that the injury has come at this particular time in Nortje’s career. Prince feels he is definitely one for the future for the Proteas, and South Africa has a lot to look forward to from this young man.

He noted that everybody in Cape Town was really excited to see the sheer pace that Anrich could generate, which they saw in the first warm-up game against Paarl Rocks, where he got the ball through at 150 – maybe higher.

He thinks that all Capetonians were really excited about his potential in the tournament and in the brief time he played with them.
