After scoring a fifty against CSK, Shikhar Dhawan scored just 58 runs in his last four innings. The fact that Delhi bought him at the expense of three players added to the pressure but the southpaw replied in style by smashing 97 runs off 63 balls and steering Delhi home against the mighty KKR.

Meanwhile, the chinks in KKR’s armor are getting bigger with every match as once again their team failed to capitalize on their strengths.

Gill, Russell take KKR to 178

KKR’s biggest trouble in Indian Premier League season 12 has been their over-reliance on Andre Russell. And the same story was repeated against Delhi. Although Shubman Gill scored a brilliant 65 off just 39 balls, other KKR batsmen failed to rally behind him as the team was at five down for 122 in the 16th over.

But once again Russell bailed the team out with his outstanding six-hitting ability. He clobbered 45 runs off 21 balls but was dismissed by Chris Morris on the second ball of the 19th over. Piyush Chawla slammed 14 runs off six balls to take KKR to 178 runs in 20 overs.

Delhi’s power-packed reply in Powerplays

DC started their chase in style with Prithvi Shaw collaring Ferguson for two sixes in the second over. Dhawan joined the party and slammed Prasidh Krishna for two sixes and a four in the next over but Krishna removed Shaw on the last ball of the same over to stage a comeback.

But this didn’t budge Dhawan as he cantered Russell for three fours in four balls in the next over. DC scored 57 runs in their Powerplays with two wickets down.

Then Dhawan added 105 runs for the third wicket with Rishabh Pant who played with immense maturity to score 46 runs off 31 balls. Pant was dismissed by Nitish Rana on the first ball of the 18th over but Colin Ingram scored 14 off 6 balls to take Delhi home.
