Don’t know if Pant fits in World Cup squad: Ganguly

By Chaitanya Laxman

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly believes that young wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant may not fit in the Indian squad for the World Cup although he thinks the left-hand batsman is a player for the future. Ganguly also believes that selectors are not thinking about Dinesh Karthik as an option for the World Cup squad.

Pant a player for the future: Ganguly

The former Indian player was speaking with the media at Kolkata. He said that Rishabh Pant has to fit in and he doesn’t know whether Pant would be able to fit in at this moment. So it depends. But at the same time, the former left-hand batsman praised Pant and said that he is obviously a player for the future.

Ganguly also stated that Dinesh Karthik is not part of the ODI squad then obviously they (the selectors) are not thinking him as an option. He feels that it all depends on what the selectors want.

India’s back-up keeper for World Cup: Pant or Karrhik?

In the recent times the competition for the back-up wicket-keeper for the World Cup was between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik. With the Australia series being the last ODI series before the World Cup, the omission of Karthik is seen as an advantage for Pant. However the selectors haven’t made anything clear so far.

India a pretty self-selected team: Ganguly

Ganguly feels that India are a very good side and it is a very strong side. He noted that they are a pretty much self-selected team and he doesn’t see too many changes in the squad.

He explained that bowling is good in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) while he feels that the batting picks itself.

For the spinners Ganguly pointed out at Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav and he noted that they are pretty self-selected team.
