The England cricket team have been the most celebrated test side after the Australians primarily due to the Ashes and then the atmosphere of the grounds in the country. The country has produced quality bowlers like James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and Graeme Swann. After the retirement of Alistair Cook and Jonathan Trott, the team’s batting order has struggled but the bowling has sufficed to overcome crucial situations. But in the recent test series against New Zealand and India at home and away respectively, they could not perform well and both the departments played an equal role for the losses. Now the squad has been announced for the home test series against India.
The 17-member squad has been announced for the first 2 tests against India starting first week August. The tweet was posted by official account of England Cricket board.
Here is the squad:
Joe Root (Captain)
The 1st test match is scheduled to be played at Trent Bridge from August 4. In the batting unit, Daniel Lawrence, Ollie Pope, and Rory Burns have been in terrific form. While, Anderson and Broad would count on their experience, while all-rounders like Curran and Stokes have proved themselves across all formats.
D Lawrence: The Essex batsman showed resilience in the away test series against India at crucial situations. After that, he played well against New Zealand and was quite impressive in the T20 Blast as well.
H Hameed: The Nottinghamshire batsman made his test debut against India in 2016 and scored 219 runs in 3 matches. But the injury concerns and competition among the players have kept him away but he has been finally chosen to play for the England team. At the time of writing this article, he is playing for County XI and has scored 56* against Indian team.
