The Indian test format team who played World Test Championship Final against New Zealand are on a leave for a for around 20 days. The first test match will start from August 4 in Nottingham. The players are spending time with their families or roaming around London and are free from following bio-bubble protocols. The performance of the team was average in the WTC final, where the team batted and bowled well in the first innings, while gave away quite easily in the 2nd innings. The batting department will be a matter of concern for Kohli and the team management.
Cheteshwar Pujara has been a long server of the Indian team in the test format. He has had a terrific career in the past few years and a little longer. To replace him, and who would the player to do that, is a big big question. Hanuma Vihari could be a ideal pick, as he has a lot of test match experience and is a good player to be playing at Pujara’s position or after. Vihari, after getting injured in the middle of the match in the Australia tour, kept batting and fought till the last for the team, he can be a front-runner to replace.
KL Rahul, is also one of the option to fill the boots of Pujara, he might have not got that many chances to play in the test team, but he is surely one of the player, who can bat in any format and at any position given to him. KL Rahul can be a pretty decent pick for the same.
The Playing 11 of the Indian team at WTC Final sparked criticizm after the pitch did not offer any support to the spin bowlers, Ashwin and Jadeja. The pace bowlers that played in WTC Final were Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah. The squad has other pace bowling options like Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav who have proved themselves in test cricket. In a long tour, they will be very important for the team’s success.
