Harleen Deol

After the Indian women reached the final of the T20 World Cup 2020, they have been looked as the potential competitors in ICC tournaments as well as bilateral series. The gap due to lockdown has certainly put a brake on India’s momentum as a team. After the unlock, they lost the limited-overs series against South Africa, and lost the ODI series against England. But, the highlight of these tournaments have been finding future players in Sneh Rana and Harleen Deol. The former has been impressive at an ongoing tour to England, while latter has started to develop her game for all situations.

Harleen Deol’s terrific catch to dismiss Jones in 1st T20I

The batsman Harleen Deol has displayed her great fielding efforts in the 30 yard circle in the past. But, in the 1st T20I against England women, she pulled off a brilliant catch to dismiss wicket-keeper Jones who was looking dangerous and tried to finish the innings well for the hosts.

It all happened in the 19th over of the England innings, where experienced Shikha Pandey was the bowler. The England wicket-keeper Amy Jones hit a shot at the long-off area, where Deol was stationed. After seeing the slower ball, she tried to clear the fence but the great fielding effort by Deol, stopping the ball and then flying to take a catch stalled the hopes of Jones.

What lies ahead in the England vs India T20I series

The England team has been superb in all the departments at their home soil. Their bowling unit has far more experience and talent than the Indian team. But the visitors would look to regroup and plan better to level the series to give them confidence for the future tours/series. In this aspect, openers Shafali and Mandhana with the support of Poonam and Shikha have to perform well.
