India Player Covid Positive: In a massive breaking news, India’s Test contingent in England have been hit by Covid-19 outbreak. According to the recent reports, as many as two India cricketers have tested positive for COVID-19. After being on a break for nearly 3 weeks, the Indian team was supposed to get together in Durham on 15 July ahead of their practice match.
It has been understood that both the positive players have been isolated from the rest of the India squad. As per reports in English media, the players are under home quarantine at their relative’s place presently and will be joining the team in Durham for the practice match only if termed fit. It is also being reported that the rest of the players are fine and regular testing is on.
“All players will reassemble in Durham today. The two player who have tested positive will stay isolated. We will now not allow players to mingle around till we get reports of the test undertaken yesterday,” said a BCCI official.
“Luckily, there is nothing to worry as one of the players has already returned negative since testing positive, the other player will be tested on Sunday and is currently in isolation. He is asymptomatic as well and we are confident that he can join the camp soon after negative reports,” a source said.
“As of now, they are all fine, but we will be testing them regularly and following strict protocols. Safety of the players is always the priority,” the source added.
India are scheduled to play a three-day warm-up match starting from 20 July against a County Select XI at the Chester-le-Street in Durham. The first England vs India Test match starts from 4 August at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
“We have asked teammates and support staff who came in contact with the players to isolate themselves for next three days. They will travel to Durham but will be asked to get in quarantine. We are just waiting for their test reports for the tests undertaken on Tuesday”, said the BCCI official.
