Former India cricketer Ajit Agarkar has questioned the selection of Ravindra Jadeja in India’s squad for the Asia Cup. He said that he cannot understand why Jadeja is back in the team and feels that Indian selectors missed an opportunity to check whether Krunal Pandya has what it takes at this level.

Agarkar unimpressed with Jadeja’s selection

Owing to injuries to Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel, India drafted in Siddharth Kaul, Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja in the team for Asia Cup. Agarkar felt a couple of these changes are strange.

The former India fast bowler was speaking about the Indian squad for the Asia cup on an online cricket portal when he raised questions over Jadeja’s selection in the team.

Agarkar pointed out that the reason the left-arm spinner went out of the team was that he was no longer effective enough and was not getting wickets. He also questioned whether the captain is confident enough to bowl him 10 overs on flat conditions.

Agarkar feels Krunal Pandya a better option

The right-hand pace bowler considers Krunal Pandya a better option than Jadeja. He noted that Krunal seems to be doing okay in List A cricket and Vijay Hazare and it was a nice opportunity for the selectors to bring him in the team.

Agarkar reminded that the time is running out to see players and to freeze down on the 16,17,18 men for the world cup.

Agarkar questions where is Umesh Yadav

Agarkar wasn’t impressed with the other selections as well. He felt that Umesh Yadav should have been considered for the role of the pace bowler. He claimed that Kaul and Chahar are ‘T20 selections’.

Agarkar pointed out that Umesh Yadav is a better replacement for Thakur as he has experience with him. At the same time, the former pace bowler said that he likes Chahar as he swings the ball and has got the ability.
