The new schedule for India tour of Sri Lanka 2021 has been announced. The Indian team arrived in Colombo on June 29 after completing a 14-days quarantine in Mumbai. After undergoing quarantine for 3 days, they were allowed to participate in training. All things as planned were going on track, but covid cases in the Sri Lanka support staff have caused a delay in the series. It was fortunate for the Sri Lanka players who returned negative after the tour of England.
After the coach and video analyst was found positive on Thursday and Friday, the series was deemed delayed by the BCCI president and secretary. Now, it is confirmed by the Sri Lanka Cricket who tweeted about the latest development regarding the limited-overs series against India.
Earlier the ODI matches were to start from 2:30 PM IST, but the new schedule reiterates that the starting time would be 3:00 PM, and T20Is from 8:00 PM. All the 6 matches (3 ODIs and 3 T20Is) will be played at Colombo. The Sri Lanka team are coming into this series after a loss against England. They have not announced their squad for the series yet.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Youtube Channel posted a short clip of the Indian team practicing ahead of the limited-overs series. The clip kept Prithvi Shaw as its focus and the opener can be seen raising his bat at the end. In the bowling unit, he faced Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Natarajan, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hardik Pandya.
The combo of Prithvi Shaw- Shikhar Dhawan will be the openers for the team in the series. Otherwise, it is expected that the Bangalore batter Devdutt Padikkal can be given a go-ahead given his terrific form for the past couple of years. Along with him, Ruturaj Gaikwad has also been a fine performer, and scored 75 in an intra squad match.
