Bangladesh deserve to be in the finals: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar wants India to be wary of Bangladesh as he feels that India could be in for a surprise if they take Bangladesh lightly. The former India cricketer said that although it is not the final that most people were anticipating or expecting, Bangladesh fully deserve to be in the final. He added that the way Bangladesh stormed back after the loss to Afghanistan shows the resolve and determination of this Bangladesh unit.

Gavaskar full of praise for Mortaza

India and Bangladesh will be locking horns against each other on September 28 in the finals of Asia Cup. Gavaskar spoke about Mashrafe Mortaza’s captaincy skills in a column he wrote for a local newspaper. He said that Mashrafe Mortaza has led the side brilliantly with his field placements and bowling changes. The former opening batsman also feels that the team has responded in the most positive manner possible.

He further explained that Mashrafe showed his captaincy by opening the bowling with off-spinner Mehidy Hasan and he got rid of Fakhar Zaman.

The little master also applauded Mushfiqur Rahim and said that has been brilliant and with Mithun, his partnership against Pakistan showed that Bangladesh was not going to give up. Gavaskar thinks that he missed out on a well-deserved hundred.

Gavaskar impressed with Indian bowlers

Along with appreciating Bangladesh players, The right-hand batsman also praised Indian cricketers and especially the bowling department. He said India’s spinners have also used the slow pitches to good effect.

The right-hand batsman stated Jasprit Bumrah too has been outstanding. Gavaskar pointed out his front foot now barely touches the batting crease and this shows his willingness to learn and correct past mistakes.
