The afternoon was India’s as they are now left with just being one wicket away from titling the score to 2-1. The long-awaited victory and the moment the entire nation was waiting for is just one wicket away. And all the thanks and praise goes to Jasprit Bumrah.

After Jos Buttler smashed his first Test century, Virat threw Bumrah the ball. Coming in hot, Bumrah went wide off the crease and bowled his signature inswings. Buttler responded by leaving it alone and got stuck on the front pad. The umpire called it and out but sent it up for a quick check. The decision went in India’s favour. This was cause for a huge celebration.

The next ball made this moment even bigger as it got an injured Johnnie Bairstow out. The team was ecstatic and the celebrations continued. Had the same happened to Woakes, it would have been a hat-trick. But unfortunately, the icing on the cake was left out.

After Hardik Pandya exploited Chris Woakes’s weakness against the short ball in the first innings. Bumrah learning as he played added a new dimension to his playing and after a few more deliveries was able to get the better of Woakes. It was so good that West Indies legend, Michael Holding who criticized Bumrah in the past, said. “That’s fantastic stuff, it can’t get any better than this.”

Jasprit Bumrah was left with the figure 5/85 in the England second innings. The 24-year-old was the one who got India so close to victory with his spectacular five-wicket haul. When interviewed post-interview, Bumrah said. The case about white-ball cricket is outsmarting the batsman. The key is patience and consistency. One cannot try to blast the batsman out in test cricket. You need to challenge the batsman. All in all, it was a good day.

Bumrah’s bowling was exceptionally well. With a second new ball, he was able to get two wickets in two deliveries which put India in the driver’s seat. When asked about the playing, Bumrah said that even as the ball got older there was less movement. The bowlers were bowling good lines and length. After the sun came out it got easier to bat. The thing they focused on was they had to keep applying pressure and sooner or later they would get results, which happened.

Bumrah was injured during the first Twenty20 International in Ireland. He made his return in Trent Bridge. Even though he was out of the game for so long, he still looked like a force to be reckoned with. Bumrah said that his chat with captain Virat and the decision to bowl a little fuller then follow it with one back of the length delivery is what got the results.
