Jayawardene believes India a clear favourite to lift the trophy

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene has said that India are the clear favourites for the Asia Cup as India is an all-round package and they look a cut above the rest.

Jayawardene praised the Indian team in a column he wrote for a newspaper. The Sri Lankan batsman noted that despite being without their talisman and best batsman Virat Kohli, India are the favourites. He further added that the fact that India can rest such a key player and still look so strong must be very comforting for their management.

Pakistan have struggled with inconsistency: Jayawardene

The former right-hand batsman noted that India’s batting is powerful and consistent while their bowling attack has the necessary power to balance the potency of these kind of wickets.

Jayawardene feels that Pakistan are India’s potential opponents in the final but he pointed out that they have struggled with inconsistency throughout the tournament. According to the right-hand batsman, Pakistan’s bowling has struggled and having the option of only one front-line spinner has not helped them on these pitches.

Jayawardene feels Sri Lanka was a big disappointment in Asia Cup

The former middle-order batsman praised Afghanistan and said they have been fantastic to watch and highly impressive. He added that seeing how their batting has performed is really encouraging.

But the former Sri Lankan player was apprehensive about the performance of his own country. He regarded Sri Lanka a big disappointment and said that he was frustrated to see that the team didn’t go in the tournament with defined roles for the top order.

Speaking about Bangladesh, Jayawardene said that the loss of Tamim Iqbal was a big blow to them and they had some tough moments in the tournament.
