Recent Developments on the ICC T20 World Cup Date and Venue

T20 World Cup Date: The T20 World Cup is a few months away from initiation, and it will be the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that could be hosting the mega event starting from October 17, and concluding on November 14. The UAE has been the hub of cricket in recent days, as the second half of the Pakistan Super League was recently conducted, while, Phase 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is also scheduled from September 19 to October 14.

T20 World Cup to start immediately after IPL 2021

This means, that the players will have just a couple of days to recuperate and return to their national camps from the IPL for the much anticipated ICC T20 World Cup. The ICC have also been reportedly been quite positive about the speculated schedule.

The T20 World Cup is likely to be split across two venues. The first round of the World Cup could be hosted in Muscat, Oman.

 

List of ICC Men's T20 World Cup Winners (2007-2021)

Round 1, which includes 12 matches, will have eight sides from which the top two of the four groups will advance to the Super 12s.

“Four teams from this lot of eight-Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea-will then progress to the Super 12s, joining the top eight ranked T20I teams,” as per reports.

The Super 12s will be having 30 matches in totality, and will be hosted in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

Shift in Venue by the BCCI and ICC

Originally, The T20 World Cup was to be hosted in India. But the second-wave of the COVID19 Pandemic had led to the BCCI to reconsider and opt for an alternate venue. A few days ago, the ICC and the BCCI had a meeting regarding the official hosting rights of the tournament in spite of it being moved out of India.

“A final decision on the host country will be taken later this month. The Board also confirmed that the BCCI will remain the hosts of the event regardless of where the event will b played” the ICC Official said.
