South African team management has called back pace bowler Dale Steyn and wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock for the remaining matches in the ODI series against Pakistan. The hosts have also roped in uncapped pacer Beuran Hendricks in the squad.
Steyn and de Kock were part of South Africa’s Test team which played three Tests against Pakistan. Considering their workload and the World Cup tournament in few months, South Africa team management had decided to rest the duo for the first two ODIs.
Steyn’s inclusion will enhance South Africa’s pace bowling strength and will give the skipper more variety while de Kock could be a crucial batsman at the top of the batting order.
South Africa are weighing their options in the pace bowling department ahead of the World Cup and hence have added Hendricks in the squad. The pacer came into limelight for his performance in T20 format and had picked 12 wickets in the Mzansi Super League tournament earlier this year.
Linda Zondi the convener of national selection panel stated that they are very happy with the depth of their fast bowling resources, particularly if you consider that Lungi Ngidi is still on the road back from injury.
He noted that they also want to have a look at Anrich Nortje when he is fully recovered. At the same time he explained that they want to explore all the options that are available to them and he feels Beuran will be able to offer variety to their attack.
