Kapil Dev about Dravid and Shastri: Rahul Dravid will be coaching the Indian team for the upcoming white ball series versus Sri Lanka. Plenty of Indian cricket fans have expressed their desire of seeing Dravid in this particular role on a permanent base in the near future.  Some even went on to say that Ravi Shastri should have been replaced immediately after the WTC Final defeat to New Zealand

Former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev has also recently weighed in on this ongoing discussion. The 1983 World Cup winning captain is open to the idea of having a new coach with a good track record such as Rahul Dravid, but also spoke about there being no need to replace Ravi Shastri as of now.

“I don’t think there is any need to speak about it. Let this Sri Lanka series get over. We’ll get to know the kind of performance our team has dished out. If you’re trying to shape a new coach, there’s nothing wrong with it. Then again, if Ravi Shastri continues to do a good job, there’s no reason to remove him either. Only time will tell. Before that, I think it will put unnecessary pressure on our coaches and players,”

India’s Bench Strength

Kapil Dev also talked about the luxury of the Indian team having two quality squads for two different tours. He believes that giving youngsters an opportunity in Sri Lanka will be only be good for Indian cricket in the long run.

:India have a big bench strength. If players get the opportunity and India can assemble two teams that can claim to win in both England and Sri Lanka, there is nothing better. If the youngsters get the opportunity, there’s nothing wrong with it. But if it is up to the team management to decide whether they should apply such pressure on two teams simultaneously,” Kapil Dev further added.
