Making his debut for India in the T20I, Prithvi Shaw failed to set the stage on fire as he bagged a first-ball duck. He took one catch but it wasn’t a memorable outing for the Delhi Capitals opener.

Shikhar Dhawan- 8/10

Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan was spot on with his captaincy skills in the second innings. With the bat, the Indian skipper anchored the innings and scored 46 off 36 balls which allowed Sanju Samson and Shikhar Dhawan to accelerate at the other end.

Sanju Samson- 6/10

Sanju

Batting at No.3 Sanju Samson once again failed to convert his start into the big innings, for which he is often criticised. He was trapped in front for 27 runs by Wanindu Hasaranga.

Suryakumar Yadav- 9/10

SKY

Suryakumar Yadav once again proved his mettle. After bagging the man of the series award in the recently concluded ODI series, the Mumbai Indians batsman began the T20I series with a fantastic half-century off just 34 balls and helped his team put a respectable total of 164 runs.

Hardik Pandya-3/10

Hardik

Hardik Pandya woes with the bat continued. He once again disappointed fans with a poor batting performance and scored only 10 runs in 12 balls. With the ball, he took the wicket of struggling Ashen Bandara but leaked runs at an economy rate of 8.5. The all-rounder even dropped a catch.

Ishan Kishan- 7/10

Kishan

Coming to bat at No.5, Ishan Kishan played the role of a finisher and scored quickfire unbeaten 20 runs to help his team to post a fighting total. He also pulled off a lightning stumping to remove Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka.

Deepak Chahar played a crucial role for Team India once again in the middle overs. After failing to take a wicket with the new ball, the medium-pacer took couple of wickets in the middle phase. He removed dangerous Charith Asalanka and then followed it with the wicket of Wanindu Hasaranga.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar- 9/10

Bhuvi

India’s vice-captain displayed a sensational bowling performance as he ended up with a four-wicket haul. His superb performance with the ball even earned him the man of the match award.

Varun Chakravarthy- 6/10

Varun

Varun Chakravarthy had a memorable India debut. Despite a couple of poor deliveries that were taken for sixes, the mystery spinner showcased his variations with the ball and kept the batsmen guessing. He gave away 28 runs in his quota of 4 overs and took the wicket of Dasun Shanaka.

Yuzvendra Chahal- 9/10

Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal was one of the best bowlers for India in the first T20I against Sri Lanka. He was economical throughout his spell and varied his pace, line, length and spin wonderfully. He finished with the figures of 1/19.

The Indian skipper was quick to admit that they were 10-15 runs short. He further lauded the all-around performance of his teammates.

“I thought we were 10-15 runs short. I feel we played quite well after losing early wickets. It was about one or two boundaries, we knew we could get going. He(SKY) is a great player and we enjoy watching him bat. He took the pressure from me and the way he plays calculated shots was amazing to watch. They were playing well, we knew our spinners will do the job on that wicket. Bhuvi bowled well, so was KP. Everyone stood up and even Varun too playing his first match did well giving a few runs and got the wicket. Prithvi is playing well and he is going to bounce back stronger. He’s (Varun) difficult to pick, I am very happy for him,” Shikhar Dhawan said.
