With just eight runs needed off the last six balls, Mustafizur Rahman delivered an epic over against Afghanistan to steal a win for Bangladesh in the Asia cup match. The Bangladesh bowler conceded just four runs in the last over of the thrilling encounter to keep Bangladesh alive in the Asia Cup.
While chasing 250 runs, Afghanistan needed eight runs off the last over. With Samiullah Shenwari and Rashid Khan at the crease, the equation favoured the batting team.
Rashid drove the first ball of Mustafizur’s final over in the covers and scored two runs. Six needed off five balls.
The bowler bowled a short delivery that climbed on to Rashid to catch him by surprise. Rashid tried to play a pull shot but ended up offering a simple return catch to the bowler. Six needed off four balls.
Another short ball and Shenwari failed to connect the pull shot. All his got was a single to short fine leg in the form of a leg-bye. Five needed off three balls.
Mustafizur brought out his ace weapon the off-cutter. He bowled it away from the reach of Gulbadin Naib. The batsman swung from the mountains but failed to make any contact. Dot ball. Five needed off two balls.
The left-arm pacer went back to the short delivery and cramped the batsman for room. Naib failed to connect the shot yet again and managed only a leg-bye at short fine. Four needed off one ball.
Mustafizur pulled his length back and aimed wide of the stumps. Shenwari went for a monstrous slog but the short and wide ball eluded him and went to the wicket-keeper. Shenwari’s bat slipped from his hands and so did the match from Afghanistan’s hands.
Mustafizur defended seven runs in the final over to inject some much-needed drama in the Asia cup tournament.
