India skipper Virat Kohli was awarded with the International Player of the Year award for the year 201-2018 by England’s fan club Barmy Army after the day concluded Day 1 of their practice match against Essex on Wednesday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared Virat’s picture on their official Twitter handle and said, “The @TheBarmy presents #Team India skipper Virat Kohli with the International player of the Year for years 2017 and 2018.”
India played their only warm-up game against Essex, Kohli scored 68 runs off 93 balls as the visitors posted a total of 322/6 on their first day of the three-day warm up match.
India lost its first two wickets early but Virat Kohli along with Murali Vijay steadied the innings as they added a partnership of 90.
While KL Rahul scored 58 runs, Dinesh Karthik remained unbeaten on 82 runs to help India post 322/6 at the end of the day.
The match was supposed to go on for four days but it was reduced to three after India requested to shorten it by a day due to heat waves and the tight schedule.
Now team India will be travelling to Birmingham a day earlier than planned to play the first Test scheduled for Wednesday in Edgbaston.
India can use the services of all 18 members of the squad who will be available to bat and bowl.
The five-match Test series, slated to begin from August 1, will also be a Test for the English side as the team have lost last three of their Test series and have managed to have just one win under their belt.
The last time India visited England was in 2014 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni where India lost the series 3-1 after the first match ended with a draw.
