Virat Kohli is Anderson’s biggest nightmare. Here’s why?
The first Test match at Edgbaston is inching closer towards a dramatic climax where India needs 84 to win whereas England needs 5 wickets to establish their dominance.
In pursuit of 194, India are currently batting on 110/5 with captain Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik in the middle.
While speaking at a press conference, England seamer James Anderson said that England’s first priority is to take Kohli’s wicket who scored 149 in the first innings.
“We go to bed dreaming about Kohli’s wicket,” Anderson said.
“We need five wickets and need to take it quickly, otherwise they will score runs,” he said.
“We need to give our everything in the first 15-20 overs. We are really excited to be at this place as we know we could do something special to win this match. It is a very close Test match.”
He also went on to hail the ongoing test match as ‘Test Cricket at its best’.
“If we are able to recover tonight, we know it is going to be 25-30 overs maximum one way or the other- so we will try do everything we can,” the 36-year-old added.
Anderson also emphasized on the weak points of the team stating that fielding is an area where they need to improve.
“We have been struggling in that area for quite a while now,” he said.
“We will just keep trying harder and harder and we will push ourselves to be better because we are creating chances but we are not able to bring out results,” he added.
“We cannot afford to drop Virat on 21 because he is one of the best in the world and he will certainly capitalise on that, which he obviously did.”
Anderson also said the team will come back stronger and find a solution to fix the problems soon.
“We are struggling a bit at the moment but we can work hard on it and hopefully we will improve.”
