Ramakant Achrekar the iconic cricket coach from Mumbai passed away on Wednesday at the age of 87 years at Mumbai. He was known for discovering and nourishing the cricket potential in Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli, Praveen Amre and several other cricketers. After his demise, Tendulkar paid his tributes to his first coach.
The legendary batsman wrote an emotional tribute to Ramakant Achrekar on Twitter and recalled some memories from the old days.
Sachin noted that the cricket in heaven will be enriched with the presence of Ramakant Achrekar sir. He stated that like like many of his students, he too learned the ABCD of batting under Achrekar’s guidance.
The Indian cricketer revealed that Achrekar’s contribution to his life cannot be captured in words. He built the foundation that he stands on.
At the same time, he recalled the last time he met his coach. Tendulkar said that he met his coach in the last month with some of his students and spent some time together. He noted that they shared a laugh as they remembered the old times.
According to Sachin, Achrekar sir taught them the virtues of playing straight and living straight. He thanked Achrekar for making them a part of his life and enriching them with his coaching manual.
On 05th September 2018, Sachin had posted a message to his coach on the social media on the occasion of Teacher’s day.
In that video, he shared an incident from his childhood which made a massive impact on his life. Achrekar had slammed Sachin in front of everyone as Sachin had skipped playing a match and instead went to watch another cricket match.
The Indian cricketer attended Achrekar’s cremation on Wednesday at Mumbai and paid his tributes to his first coach.
