Aussie captain Tim Paine is known for his witty comments behind the stumps. Once such instance of his epic sledging was heard by the stump mics on day two of the Melbourne Test. Paine was heard sledging Indian batsman Rohit Sharma by making references to the IPL and Mumbai Indians.
Nothing worked right for Australia in the Boxing Day Test. First Paine lost the toss and then India’s top order grinded the Aussie team on day one and offered only two wickets.
On day two, the wickets of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara rekindled the Australian team and Paine with his enthusiasm back, started making some interesting conversations behind the stumps to break Indian batsmen’s concentration.
When Rohit Sharma was batting the Aussie captain made references to IPL to distract the Indian batsman. He was heard saying to Aaron Finch at short leg that two players from Rajasthan Royals (Ajinkya Rahane) and Mumbai Indians are in the middle.
And then he challenged the Rohit to hit a six by saying that it’s been a toss-up for him between Royals and Indians, and if Rohit hits a six here, he is changing to Mumbai.
Paine also remarked that there are plenty of England players in the Rajasthan Royals team.
Meanwhile, the Indian batsman refused to react to the Aussie captain. Sharma gave a smile and continued batting. He scored a half-century and remained unbeaten as India declared their inning.m

Paine’s sledging made no impact on Indian batsmen who piled up a big score at Melbourne. The visitors declared their first innings at 443 runs and bowled six overs to Australia. The Aussie opening pair survived the ordeal but they have a humongous task in front of them on day three.
