WI Playing 11: West Indies and Australia will face off in the first ODI of the series here at Barbados. After winning the T20I series convincingly, West Indies will be looking for a similar performance here with World Cup Super League points up for grabs. There will be few players from the T20I set-up which should give them some momentum. With skipper Kieron Pollard and allrounder Jason Holder expected to return, Windies will be a confident side. Both sides have faced each other in 140 ODIs before in which Australia leads West Indies 74-60.

Team News

  • Skipper Kieron Pollard is set to return after hamstring injury ruled him out of the T20I series.
  • Allrounder Jason Holder is likely to make a return after being rested for the T20Is.
  • Shimron Hetmyer will also return into the ODI set-up after missing the last series against Sri Lanka.

ODI run-machine Shai Hope is back for the ODIs as vice-captain of the side. Hope has been WI’s best batsman in this format for some time now and will be expected to get a big score here. All the top 3 batters got centuries in the last ODI series against Sri Lanka. The lower order looks strong with Pollard and Holder returning into the side. Cottrell and Joseph will be expected to get wickets with the new ball while spinner Fabian Allen has been in good form in T20Is.
