Confident of being fit before the third Test: Kohli

England won the second Test match against India at Lord’s on Sunday by an innings and 159 runs to go up in the series by 2-0.

With the third Test slated to be played on 18th August at Trent Bridge, India will hope to register a win for making it 2-1.

If India lose the third Test against England, the hosts will comfortably wrap the series success and India will play the remaining two Test matches to save themselves from the humiliation of a clean sweep.

India are already struggling to find their form, and amidst all the chaos, India dealt with a heavy blow when skipper Virat kohli couldn’t take the field at the start of day four and decided to come down the batting order during India’s second innings due to his injury-enforced absence.

But after India’s first innings defeat against England in the second Test at Lord’s, Virat Kohli assured that he was determined to bat in Nottingham.

“I am quite confident that I should be ready for the next game, even if I could not play with full intensity,” he said.

“It is sore as of now. It happened in the last leg of the South Africa tour when I missed a T20 game,” he said.

“But injuries are a part of the game. Five days is enough time to get ready for the next Test,” he added.

If Virat misses the next Test due to injury, this might be a big blow for the team as none of the other batsmen except Kohli have scored even a half-century in both the Tests.

“We haven’t been able to build partnerships and it is the basic rule,” he said.

Only one team has ever managed to make a comeback from 2-0 behind to win a series in the 141-year old history of Test cricket.

(Don Bradman’s Australia in 1936-37 won the Test series against their English counterparts to retain The Ashes).

However, skipper Kohli backed his team and said that they still stand a chance to win the series.
