The WTC Final which was started on June 18, has been disturbed due to the frequent rainfall in Southampton. The low pressure which was formed initially in France, has been shifted to Southern England and has caused rain showers. The Day 1 was abandoned, and there was play possible on Day 2 and Day 3. But, the Day 4 was completely washed out and the decision was taken by umpires around afternoon. The reserve day, which is scheduled on June 23 is likely to be used to get a cricket action, if the weather supports.

The pitches at England have been known for its pace friendly conditions. The New Zealand team chose 4 frontline pacers and 1 seam all-rounder for the WTC Final. While, Indian team are playing with 2 spinners and 3 pace bowlers. The Indian team chose experienced bowlers, Ishant, Shami, and Bumrah as its frontline pacers. The Hyderabad fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj who was also in the final squad of 15 players, could not be included in the Playing 11. He was in good form in the Australia test series, where he scalped 13 wickets in 3 test matches.

The New Zealand team who was already touted to be well prepared as compared to the Indian team, has played well. They dismissed the Indian team for a score of 217, and then stitched a good opening partnership of 70 runs. Then at end of the day, the New Zealand team were at 101/2, with Williamson and Ross Taylor at the crease.
