T20 World Cup venue announced: In a massive recent update, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that this year’s T20 World Cup has been shifted to the UAE. The ICC mega-event will be held in October-November.

In a recent interview to PTI, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly confirmed that they have officially intimated the International Cricket Council (ICC)  that the T20 World Cup has been moved to the UAE. This big call has been taken owing to the COVID-19 concerns in India. Ganguly also mentioned that they are still mulling over the complete logistical details regarding the ICC event.

“We have officially intimated the ICC that the T20 World Cup can be shifted to the United Arab Emirates. The details are being chalked out,” said BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to PTI.

T20 World Cup Start Date

Earlier, it was reported that this year’s ICC T20 World Cup will be starting from 17 October and conclude on 14 November. Incidentally, Phase 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely start from 19 September to 14 October. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had also given an indication that the T20 tournament will be shifted because of Covid concerns. It is also to be noted that the BCCI will hold the hosting rights for the competition.

“Due to the COVID-19 situation in our country, we may shift the tournament to UAE. We are monitoring the situation closely, the health and safety of players are paramount we will take a final call soon,” Jay Shah told ANI on Saturday.

There are chances that the qualifiers of the T20 World Cup might be held in Oman. Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Oman, Namibia, Netherlands, Ireland, Papua New Guinea and Scotland will face off in the first round of the ICC event.
