Kolkata Knight Riders vs Kings XI Punjab

The Big Picture

It is expected to be another pulsating clash at the Vivo IPL 2018 with the Kings XI Punjab set to host the 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While Sunrisers are the only team to remain undefeated thus far in the tournament, they’ll be up against a buoyed Kings XI Punjab unit who are coming off a nail-biting win over the Chennai Super Kings.

Where: Eden Gardens, Kolkata

When: 21 April 2018, 4:00 PM

Pitch Conditions:

The Eden Gardens pitch has been considered as one of the better conditions for batting whilst assisting spinners, evident from Kolkata Knight Riders strategy of fielding plethora of spinners over the years. The 2016 season though saw the pitch being re-laid and being more conducive to fast as well as reverse-swing bowling evident from the rout of RCB (49 all out) inflicted by the likes of Coulter Nile and Woakes last year.

Statistics over the years: While over the past ten years, the average first innings score has swelled from 167 to 179, the team batting first has won 37.1% times while the chasing side has 62.9% of the occasions.

Kolkata Knight Riders

The Knight Riders are on the roll having picked up three wins in four games. They now sit at the top of the table and will now be looking to consolidate their position with another impressive show when they host the Kings XI Punjab on Saturday.

While Chris Lyn’s form who got out for a duck in the previous match might be a cause of concern, KKR’s batting is looking solid with the likes of Rana, Uthappa, Narine and DK chipping in with handy contributions.

On the bowling front, while Narine came in for punishment against RR (0-48 in 4 overs), the likes of Chawla, Kuldeep has managed to put a stranglehold on the opposition and has emerged to be the biggest strength of KKR this season. While Mavi and Curran came in for some stick, they chipped in with crucial wickets, and are expected to keep their place in the side.

Probable 11:

Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa (wk), Dinesh Karthik (capt), Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Shubhman Gill, Piyush Chawla Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav, Tom Curran, Shivam Mavi

Kings XI Punjab

On the back of a superlative hundred from Chris Gayle (104 off 63 balls), the Kings XI Punjab halted Sunrisers Hyderabad winning streak as they defeated the 2016 IPL champions by 15 runs.

on the bowling front, Sran (0-22) and Mujib (0-27) were the standout performers for KXIP, as they choked the opposition into submission.

With 3 wins in 4 games, the Kings XI Punjab unit looks confident as ever, and they’d be looking to carry on the momentum to the iconic Eden Gardens, where they take on Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.

Probable XI:

Aaron Finch, Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul (WK),  Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, Axar Patel, R Ashwin (C), Mohit Sharma, Barinder Sran,  Andrew Tye, Mujib Ur-Rahman
