Indian Premiere League, 2018
Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Daredevils
The Big Picture
The IPL moves to the venue, where it had all started a week ago, the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where the defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on the Delhi Daredevils.
Both the teams have had a forgettable start to the tournament, with Delhi being undone by the rain-rule in their last game against RR, while Mumbai Indians losing two nerve-wrecking thrillers against CSK and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Hence, the above predicament makes the encounter on Saturday afternoon a mouth watering clash with both sides trying to get off the mark in Vivo IPL 2018.
Where: Wankhede Stadium Mumbai
When: 07 April 2018, 8:00 PM
With close proximity to the Arabian sea, the Wankhede pitch helps the swing bowlers considerably and with red soil at its disposal, spinners don’t lack behind either. With a fair contest between bat and ball, the pitch makes for a great T20 viewing.
Statistics over the years: While over the past decade, the average first innings score have hovered from 146.5 to 175.43, 51.4% of the matches have been won by the team batting first (38) while team’s batting second have won 48.6% of the matches (36).
Team News and Probable XI
While the Mumbai Indians, on the back of an astounding bowling performance spearheaded by teenage leggie Mayank Markande’s 4-fer, came close to clinching an improbable win, after posting a meager 8-147, they’d realize that a significant amount of work needs to be done as far as their batting is concerned.
While Rohit Sharma failed to put up a substantial score yet again, their middle-order in Kishan, Yadav, Pandya and Pollard needs to take more responsibility with the bat. Mumbai, thanks to some insipid batting kept losing wickets in the middle overs, and were atleast 20-short of the par score. While their bowling brought them back into the game, their batting needs to step-up in the coming games.
Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan(wk), Rohit Sharma(c), Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya/Pradeep Sangwan, Ben Cutting, Mayank Markande, Mustafizur Rahman, Jasprit Bumrah.
After being humbled in the first game by a rampaging KL Rahul’s KXIP, Delhi would believe they were hard done by the rain-rule in the previous game against Rajasthan. Rajasthan were 5-153 after 17.5 overs, when the rain arrived, forcing the match to be reduced to a six-over shoot-out 71 runs to win in six overs following the Duckworth-Lewis rule, and ultimately went down by ten runs.
The forthcoming game will be crucial for Gambhir’s man, who are still looking for the elusive to kickstart their beleagured campaign. Not much changes are expected in the Delhi Daredevils squad.
Gautam Gambhir (capt), Colin Munro, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Vijay Shankar, Chris Morris, Rahul Tewatia, Amit Mishra/Shahbaz Nadeem, Trent Boult, Mohammed Shami
