Indian Premier League, 2018
Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore
The Big Picture
The 11th edition of the Indian Premier League has got off to a riveting start with a plethora of matches going down the wire, and it is expected to offer much the same as the Royal Challengers Bangalore take on the defending champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Where: Wankhede Stadium Mumbai
When: 17 April 2018, 8:00 PM
With close proximity to the Arabian sea, the Wankhede pitch helps the swing bowlers considerably and with red soil at its disposal, spinners don’t lack behind either. With a fair contest between bat and ball, the pitch makes for a great T20 viewing.
Statistics over the years: While over the past decade, the average first innings score have hovered from 146.5 to 175.43, 51.4% of the matches have been won by the team batting first (38) while team’s batting second have won 48.6% of the matches (36).
Team Preview and Probable XI
Royal Challengers Bangalore
After a morale-boosting win against the Kings XI Punjab, the Royal Challengers Bangalore ran into a rampaging Sanju Samson, who stroked a masterly 92 off just 45, that powered his side to a comfortable 19 run win over the hosts.
For the Challengers, it was another insipid bowling performance, with the hero of the last game Umesh Yadav going for 59 in his quota of 4 overs. None of the bowlers apart from Chahal and Sundar could leave an impact and there can be a plethora of changes that RCB can make for this game. After a string of indifferent performances since the first game, Brendon McCullum position might come under scrutiny, and the former Kiwi skipper might make way for compatriot Colin de Grandhome, who with his all-round skills can give balance to the RCB side, while Pawan Negi can make way for Manan Vohra to add stability to the lower-middle order.
Quinton de Kock (wk), Brendon McCullum/Colin de Grandhomme, Virat Kohli (C), AB de Villiers, Pawan Negi/Manan Vohra, Mandeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Chris Woakes, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Kulwant Khejroliya
The defending champions Mumbai Indians are yet to win a game at the Vivo IPL 2018, and the match against RCB would offer them a chance to redeem their fledgling campaign after they lost another nail-biting thriller to the Delhi Daredevils on Saturday.
MI was flying on the back of an outstanding partnership between Lewis (53) and Yadav (48), and Kishan (44), but it was their lower middle order in the Pandya brothers and Pollard, that derailed their charge at the death. Apart from their batting in the death, Mumbai’s bowling was hammered to all corners of the ground, and they’d be looking for a much-improved performance against RCB.
Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan(wk), Rohit Sharma(c), Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya/Pradeep Sangwan, Ben Cutting, Mayank Markande, Mustafizur Rahman, Jasprit Bumrah.
