Windies tour of Pakistan, 2018

Pakistan vs Windies, 2nd T20I

Venue: National Stadium, Karachi

The Big Picture

While the return of international cricket may have been a watershed moment in Pakistan’s history yesterday with the commencement of the T20I series against Windies, the cricket at best lacked skills, context, and more importantly pedigree. It seemed as if thirteen individuals, who had one unifying characteristic of their willingness to travel to Pakistan,  have been cobbled together. They proved to be no match for the NO.1 T20I side Pakistan as the hosts inflicted a 143-run win over the Windies.

Pitch Conditions

The wicket at the National Stadium is traditionally a batting paradise and with short boundaries and fast outfield, it is expected to be an ideal T20 pitch.

Team News and Squads:

While debutant Hussain Talat emerged as a highest-run getter, Zaman, Malik, and Sarfaraz chipped in with handy contributions, Nawaz (2-19) and Amr (2-3) pulverized the Windies into submission and are expected to field the same line-up in the second T20I as well.

PAK Squad:

Sarfraz Ahmed (C), Muhammad Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Faheem Ashraf, Ahmed Shehzad, Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Amir, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Hasan Ali, Rahat Ali, Usman Khan Shinwari, Shaheen Shah Afridi

In a similar predicament, as was with touring  Lankans last year, the Windies have sent a weakened squad to Pakistan. They were at best lackluster in the first contest. While no batsman in the top 6 barring Marlon Samuels (18) could cross the double-digit mark, their bowlers in Kemar Roach and Badree lacked venom.

While there are no injury concerns. the likes of McCarthy and Permaul might get to feature in the game.

WI Squad:

Jason Mohammed (C), Denesh Ramdin, Chadwick Walton, Rayad Emrit, Andre McCarthy, Keemo Paul, Veerasammy Permaul, Samuel Badree, Rovman Powell, Andre Fletcher, Marlon Samuels, Odean Smith, Kesrick Williams
