Global T20 League Canada, 2018
The Global T20 League is about to kick off on Thursday and the whole nation of Canada is going to have a fortnight full on entertainment as six teams participate in the inaugural Twenty20 format tournament, Global T20 League.
The six participating teams are Montreal Tigers, Edmonton Royals, Toronto Nationals, Winnipeg Hawks, and Vancouver Knights along with a Cricket West Indies B division team. Big cricket names from the world of cricket have joined the Global T20 League as captains.
West Indies’ Darren Sammy would lead the Toronto Nationals, Chris Gayle for Vancouver Knights and Dwane Bravo for Winnipeg Hawks. Whereas Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga will captain the Montreal Tigers and Shahid Afridi of Pakistan will lead the Edmonton Royals.
Even banned Steven Smith and David Warner are also allowed to play in the Global T20 League and the former has already been taken by Toronto Nationals and the latter by Winnipeg Hawks. It was generous of Cricket Australia to let these players play overseas club cricket.
The main aim of this Global T20 league is to build a proper Canadian cricket team and thus it has been made mandatory for each team to play four Canadian players at all cost. Global T20 league also saw that popular coaches heading to the tournament like Jamaican Donovan Miller for Vancouver Knights, Phil Simmons of Trinidad for Toronto Nationals, Waqar Younis of Pakistabn for Winnipeg Hawks, Australian Tom Moody for Montreal Tigers and Mohammad Akram of Pakistan for Edmonton Royals.
