2nd One Day International
After a dominating triumph in the first ODI, India will now face the Windies in the second ODI of the series at Visakhapatnam. This would be a day-night affair as well and a cruising India will look to take the early honours in the series.
After a scintillating batting effort from Windies in the first innings where they got to 322 in their penultimate 50 overs, India chased down the target with ease thanks to two phenomenal tons from captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma.
The knocks from the two stalwarts overshadowed Shimron Hetmyer’s valiant knock of 106 runs from 78 deliveries which included 6 fours and 6 sixes. Apart from him, Kieran Powell got 51 to his name while the skipper Jason Holder’s 38 was important as well. The late blitz from Kemar Roach and Devendra Bishoo who stitched an unbeaten stand of 44 runs were exemplary for the visitors as they crossed the 300 run mark and posted a tantalizing total.
India did not get off to a good as they lost Shikhar Dhawan on the last ball of the second over for just 4 runs but Virat Kohli (140 off 104 balls) and Rohit Sharma (152 off 117) steadied the ship with a defiant 246 runs stand which was also the first ever 200+ partnership for India against Windies, proved way too good and India registered a comfortable 8 wicket with 47 balls to spare.
