With the final session of the India vs New Zealand WTC Final upon us, the advantage is with the Kiwis to get the win, unless Virat Kohli’s men do something remarkable with the ball in hand. It was Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja who walked in post-lunch, and didn’t hold back in showing intent.
Ravindra Jadeja struggled facing Neil Wagner’s short balls, and eventually got caught behind to the same bowler for 16 runs. Rishabh Pant carried on his fearless brand of cricket, but was not able to middle the ball quite well either. Pant compiled a knock of 41 before top edging Trent Boult’s delivery to Henry Nicholls.
Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t have much to offer either as he was caught at slips in the same over of Boult for 7 runs. Mohammed Shami did entertain the fans to an extent, as he struck three quick boundaries before lobbing one straight to Tom Latham for 13 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was back in the hut without bothering the scorers, as the New Zealand bowler did terrifically well to restrict India for 170/10. Kane Williamson’s men required 139 runs to win the finals at the start of the second innings.
The opening duo of Tom Latham and Devon Conway have started off decently well, and are guiding their team to a place of further comfort.
The star of the show for the Kiwis with the ball has been Kyle Jamieson, who has scalped 7 wickets in the match. Tim Southee and Trent Boult picked six wickets apiece. Although, Neil Wagner picked just three wickets, he did bowl at a tight line which bothered the Indian batsmen.
With one final session to be played, the likes of Shami, Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have to give it their to bag all 10 wickets and win the game.
New Zealand are currently at 19/0, with Devon Conway batting at 9, while, Tom Latham is on 5.
