Controversies

  • In 1994, Mongua, along with Manoj Prabhakar was accused of throwing away the game against the West Indies. Requiring 63 off last nine overs, Mongia scored just 4 runs off 21 balls along with Manoj Prabhakar, who played a ridiculously slow knock in a bid to get to his selfish milestone (102 off 154 balls). India went on to lose the match by 46 runs and the duo was dropped from the side for the next match.
  • Mongia was named by the bookmaker in 2000 along with Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja. Following the probe, he was dropped from the side in 2001.
