Sajida Sultan is the begum of 8th Nawab of Pataudi and the captain of Indian National Cricketer Team for the tour to England in 1946, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi. She was also the last titular of Bhopal.

Early Life

Sajida Sultan was born in Bhopal to Nawab Hamidullah Khan and Maimoona Sultan. Her father was the last ruling Nawab of Bhopal. She had one elder sister, Abida Sultan and one younger sister, Rabia Sultan.

Marriage

Sajida Sultan married Iftikhar Ali Pataudi on 23rd April 1939. The couple was blessed with 4 children, one son named Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and three daughters named as Saleha, Sabiha, and Qudsia. Iftikhar Ali Pataudi was the captain of Indian National Cricket team for the England Tour in 1946. He also played Test Cricket and is one of the few cricketers who represented two teams, India and England for Test Cricket. He died on 5th January 1952 and was succeeded by his son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi who also later served as Captain of Indian Cricket Team.

Titles

In 1960 her father passed away making the three sisters the successors to his throne. The eldest sister, Abida being the heiress declined to take the title as she got married in Pakistan and refused to come back to Bhopal permanently, her son also declined. So, the title came to the second daughter, Sajida Sultan. She was recognized as the Begum of Bhopal in 1962 which was effective from 1960.
