I am an Arsenal fan like you, says Arsène Wenger as he draws curtains to his glittery career

It was an emotional day at the Emirates yesterday. Arsène Wenger’s final home game in charge of Arsenal Football Club.

The mood at the Emirates was sunny and Arsène was given a lovely send-off by the Arsenal fans. His 22 years of service had been acknowledged.

The match ended 5-0 and the proceedings began. Per Mertesacker, Vic Akers and Alex Scott all bid adieu to the Emirates. Now, it was time for the man himself, the man who built the stadium.

The crowd roared as he walked out from the tunnel. He started by wishing Sir Alex Ferguson a healthy recovery- “Before I start, I just want to say that at Arsenal we care and I would like to wish my fellow manager (Sir Alex) Ferguson well, very quickly.”

The speech had everything that We have witnessed from Arsène over the years. Wit, humour, class, emotion, everything. He continued -“Thank you for having me for such a long time. I know it was not easy. But above all, I’m like you — I’m an Arsenal fan.

“This is more than just watching football, it’s a way of life. It’s caring about the beautiful game, about the values we cherish, and as well, that something that goes for all our bodies in every cell of our bodies.”

Even on his final day, he defended his players. “This group of players has a special quality. Not only on the pitch, but off the pitch as well. Please, as you follow this team, support them next season because they deserve it.”- He added.

Finally, he ended it in the most eye-numbing fashion.

“I would like to finish in one simple sentence: I will miss you. Thank you all for having such an important part of my life, thank you all, well done, bye bye.”
