NOR vs ALB MATCH PREVIEW:

Not much was expected from either of these countries during the qualifying campaign for the FIFA World Cup 2018 to be held in Russia.

But after a good showing in the Euro 2016, you would have excused Albania for fancying their chances, and, to some, extent, they did themselves some proud after finishing third in the group, behind only Spain, and Italy.

While Norway ended the campaign at a disappointing fourth place in the group that saw Germany, Northern Ireland, and the Czech Republic finishing above them. So it was a disappointing campaign for Lars Lagerbäck and his men.

However, the qualification rounds for Euro 2020 will begin in September, after the World Cup. That’s why this fixture, even if it is carrying the word ‘friendly’, provides a perfect opportunity for the manager of both the teams to test the skills and the temperament of their sets of players.

Both Norway and Albania have faced each other on four different occasions prior to today’s match. The record stands at one win, one defeat and two draws for both the teams. The last meeting between these teams came in 2013 when they both played each other twice in World Cup 2014 Qualifying campaign. Albania won the away match while their home game ended in 1-1 draw. Though, neither team could qualify for the World Cup.

Talking about this match, and form, it’s Albania who can be considered as favorites as they are heading into this match in a better rhythm than the visitors. They have won three, drawn one and lost twice in their last six games. But it’s worth noting that those losses came against Spain and Italy.

While Norway have been blowing hot and cold in their recent matches as they have won three and lost three times in their last six games.

NOR vs ALB TEAM NEWS:

Albania:

Albania’s Italian coach Christian Panucci has added four new players to his team while leaving out veteran captain Ansi Agolli from his squad, citing ‘looking at the future’ as the reason.

While midfield quartet Jahmir Hyka, Ergys Kaçe, Amir Abrashi, and Ledian Memushaj are missing too.

Twenty-one-year-old Luftetari striker Kristal Abazaj, who has scored eight goals in Albanian Superliga this season, is the surprise inclusion in Panucci’s squad.

While several other experienced players such as Armando Sadiku, Sokol Cikalleshi, Defender Mergim Mavraj, Ledian Memushaj, Napoli fullback Elseid Hysaj and Lazio and Atalanta goalkeepers, have been included in the squad.
