Windies have received a major blow in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup as key player and all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out of the remaining tournament due to injury issues. Meanwhile, Windies team management has roped in Sunil Ambris as the replacement for Russell.

Russell’s injury woes come to an end

The Windies all-rounder has been struggling since the start of the tournament and has finally given up on playing the remaining tournament. In Windies’ first match of the tournament against Pakistan, Russell was seen limping heavily.

Despite that, he was part of Windies’ team for the next games. He bowled only one spell against Australia and managed to send two overs against England. Against Bangladesh too, he could bowl only six overs.

As the severity of his knee injury grew, Russell was ruled out of the New Zealand game which Windies lost narrowly and now the all-rounder has been ruled out of the remaining tournament.

Sunil Ambris to replace Russell

Interestingly Windies have roped in young Sunil Ambris as the replacement of Russell ahead of big names such as Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo.

Ambris has played only six ODIs and averages a staggering 105.33. He scored a swashbuckling hundred against Ireland recently, hammering 148 runs and this knock brought him in the limelight.
