Avinash Sable is an Indian athlete who hails from Mandwa, Maharashtra and specializes in 3000 m steeplechase. Sable is the first Indian athlete since 1952 to qualify for 3000 meters steeplechase event at Olympics

Born on 13 September 1994 into a farmer’s family, Sable is a national record holder and also army personnel. Due to a lack of transport facility in his village, Sable used to cover 6 km distance from his home to school from age six. After completing 12th grade, Sable joined the 5 Mahar regiment of the Indian Army and got posted at the Siachen Glacier in 2013–2014. He was then posted in deserts of north-western Rajasthan and followed by Sikkim in 2015.

Before specializing in the steeplechase, Sable took part in inter-army cross country running in 2015. However, he switched to steeplechase after the insistence of coach Amrish Kumar.
