Dan Christian is a prominent name in the shortest format of the game. The Australian all-rounder has been part of numerous T20 tournaments around the globe. A hard-hitter and a handy customer with the ball, Dan Christian is a valuable asset to any team in T20 cricket. He recently made headlines after being bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping amount of 4.8 crores in the IPL 2021 Auctions.
Daniel Christian was born in 1983 in the town of Narrandera in the Riverina region of New South Wales. He completed his primary schooling from there before he moved to Sydney to pursue his further studies at St. Gregory’s College, Campbelltown.
Dan Christian was a football star during his early days in college. However, two broken legs meant he had to call time on Football and chose Cricket as his calling. Being a handy customer with both bat and ball, Dan Christian couldn’t be ignored for too long and soon he was selected in Australia’s under-19 side.
In the year 2003, Daniel Christian joined the Australian Cricket Academy. A few years later, he found himself making his debut in List-A cricket for New South Wales. The Australian all-rounder played for New South Wales in 2006 and 2007 before moving to South Australia for the 2007-08 season. Notably, Christian made his first-class cricket debut for South Australia.
Road to International Cricket: In the year 2009, Daniel Christian led the Indigenous Australian team for a tour of England. He attracted eyeballs with his power-hitting display. As a result, Daniel was called up into Australia’s T20 squad. In February 2010, Daniel Christian played his first international T20 for Australia against West Indies. He was then selected in Australia’s squad for the 2010 World Cup.
His best performance for Australia came on 2nd March 2012 in an ODI match against Sri Lanka. Daniel Christian ended with figures of 5 for 31 which included a hat-trick.
Daniel Christian, overall, hadn’t enjoyed a long career for Australia. In all, he has represented Australia in 19 ODIs and 16 T20s, picking 20 and 11 wickets respectively.
With that bat, he has 273 runs to his name in ODIs and 27 runs in the shortest format.
Daniel Christian was first bought by Deccan Chargers for a sum of 9,00,000 USD in 2011 IPL. He turned up in 14 games, picking 11 wickets at an average of 31.81. Ahead of the 2013 IPL edition, RCB bought his services for 1,00,000 USD. He, however, could only get to play 2 games for the franchise, without any wicket to his account.
His best IPL season came in 2017 with Rising Pune Supergiants. He played as many as 13 games for that franchise and picked 11 wickets at an average of 27.09. Daniel Christian will be seen in action for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2021.
