Ritu Phogat: The Phogat family is synonymous with the world of combat sports and the representation that India has in the sports. The latest addition to the legacy of the family is Ritu Phogat who has been doing brilliantly in the field of Mixed Martial Arts. Trained by her father Mahavir Singh Phogat, She currently holds a 4-1 record in the MMA circuit in ONE championship wrestling.
She is 27 years old and hails from Balali district in Haryana and was trained along with her sisters Geeta, Priyanka and Babita Phogat who are international level wrestlers and Vinesh Phogat who is her cousin.
Ritu is focussed on her career right now and is not married. She isn’t very public about her personal life either. She is the daughter of Mahavir Singh Phogat who is known for strict training. She is called the Indian Tigress and certainly lives up to her name. She has also been involved with Promotions such as Evolve and Pro Wrestling League. She fights as an atomweight and weighs in at 47 kgs. She practices freestyle wrestling.
She picked up MMA after being a professional wrestler. She quit her school in 10th class and started pursuing wrestling. She won the Commonwealth Wrestling Champnship gold in 2016 and also has also one Asian Championship medal.
She signed with One Championship wrestling in 2019. She has since honed her skills in the One Championship arena. She came in with no expectations but proved herself in the MMA ring too and won 4 fights back to back. Out of these, there were three wins which she won through a Technical Knock Out.
The month of May 2021 hasn’t been great for her as she has lost a couple of games through split decisions and one of them was an anti climatic loss at their Indian Event. This has lead to her being removed from the Grand Prix. The whole of India will think of this as a blip in her career and expect her to be back on track soon and sore to greater heights
