Born in Hisar Haryana, Saina Nehwal was the first Indian shuttler to hold the World number one ranking. She has won 24 singles titles in her ravishing career which includes 11 Superseries titles. She holds the record of being only the second Indian to hold the World number one ranking after Prakash Padukone.

She has many accolades to her name which also includes an Olympic Bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympics and 2 individual Gold medals in the 2010 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.

  • She is the first Indian woman to reach the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games. She achieved this feat in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
  • In the year 2008, she became the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championship.
  • She became the first Indian woman to win the BWF Super Series in the year 2009.
  • She is the first Indian woman to reach semifinals of the 2010 All-England Super Series.
  • She also is the first Indian woman to win the 2014 China Open Series Premier.
  • She is the first Indian woman to win the Asian badminton medal at the Asian Games. She won Bronze in the 2014 and 2018 Asian games pageant.
