Tipped as one of the teams to watch out for, it is fair to say the Delhi Daredevils have flattered to deceive more often than not throughout the first ten years of the IPL. That they are yet to acquire the title testifies the aforementioned fact. Delhi had their most profitable years during the first three editions of the IPL with the likes of Gambhir, Warner, de Villiers and Sehwag in their ranks and their best performance came during the 2009 edition where they were defied by a rampaging Adam Gilchrist in the semi-finals.
Delhi‘s next best performance came in the 2012 season which saw them top the league stage only to defied in the semi-final again. Over the past few seasons with Dravid at the helm, The Delhi team have frequent been a breading ground for youngsters with the likes of Iyer, Pant, Karun Nair being given a chance to shine on the big stage. This year too with Gautam Gambhir back to his home franchise and with Ponting as the head coach, Delhi retained young prodigies in Pant and Iyer and with a mix of experience in their ranks and a potent bowling attack comprising of Kagiso Rabada and Trent Boult, IPL 2018 can in the long run be the year when DD compile their magnum opus.
