Blow to AUS: Star pacer out of SL series due to injury

By Chaitanya Laxman

Nothing is going right for the Australian team in the recent times. After losing the Test series against India, Australia have now lost star pace bowler Josh Hazlewood due to an injury for the Test series against Sri Lanka. Jhye Richardson has been roped in as his replacement.

Hazlewood facing a fracture

The pace bowler has remained one of the essential cogs in Australia’s pace bowling department in the recent past and bowled plenty of overs in the four match Test series against India.

The pacer was rested for the ODI series against India but he is now facing a early-stage back stress fracture and hence won’t participate in the Test series against Sri Lanka.

With the ODI World Cup approaching, Australian team management would be hoping that Hazlewood regains fitness quickly as he will be part of Australia’s world cup plans.

Richardson rewarded with Test call up

The team management has added Jhye Richardson as a cover for Hazlewood in the squad. The pacer impressed everyone with his incredible bowling in the ODI series against India.

Richardson was the man of the match in the first game and consistently troubled the Indian batsmen with his accuracy and skills.

Importantly he claimed the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli in all three innings.

Looking forward to the chance: Richardson

Richardson stated that he has loved the pink ball. As a group he doesn’t think Australia has lost a pink-ball Test, and luckily enough for himself, he probably had one of his better games when he played at the WACA under lights.

He revealed that he is really looking forward to it. It’s going to be fantastic. He feels that the prospect of a pink ball in a Test again is great.

Richardson noted that we have seen in that twilight period the ball moves around a little bit more which is really exciting and he definitely likes to swing the ball early which will be the plan if he does get to play.
