It seems that breaching ground security and meeting the cricketer during a cricket match has become a trend these days. It happened with Virat Kohli twice in the recent Test series against Windies and now Rohit Sharma has come under the radar of such over enthusiastic fans.
The incident happened in the Vijay Hazare trophy match between Mumbai and Bihar. The match was played at Just Cricket Academy Ground in Bengaluru. Rohit Sharma who is Indian national cricket team's vice-captain was playing for Mumbai in the match.
During Mumbai's innings, in the 11th over, a spectator breached the ground security and entered the field. He ran towards Rohit Sharma and first touched his feat. He then hugged the Indian cricketer and even kissed him.
The Indian opening batsman was trying his best to get away from the fan and soon the umpire came to his rescue. However, shockingly no security personals came to help the right-hand batsman. After meeting Rohit, the jubilant fan ran back to the stands.
However the right-hand batsman wasn't affected by the incident as he remained not out on 33 and steered Mumbai home in an easy chase of just 70 runs.
Mumbai will now meet Jharkhand in the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Sharma's wife Ritika Sajdeh saw the lighter side of the event and used this opportunity to have some fun on social media.
Ritika posted a story on Instagram with a picture of a news clipping of this incident.
She even tagged Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal in her story and wrote, ‘you and I, both have got competition.'
