5 players who initially went unsold in IPL 2018 but made their way through replacements!

Cricket is as uncertain off the field as it is on the field. And, with the biggest cricket league around the corner, a lot of things have rolled off in the recent days. The most shocking one was the one-year ban on David Warner and Steve Smith on the ball tempering scandal.

However, as the adage goes- one man’s loss is another’s gain, here we will have a look at some of the players who initially went unsold but got luckier with the passage of time and are ready for a grand entry-

1. Alex Hales replaces David Warner- SRH

SRH experienced a serious blow after BCCI stopped Steve Smith and David Warner to appear in the eleventh edition of IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad then picked Alex Hales as a replacement for David Warner. Hales has been bought for 1 crore (base price) under the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list.

England’s batsman, Alex Hales is yet to make his IPL debut and was a part of Mumbai Indians (MI) for the 2015 edition.

2. Tom Curran replaces Mitchell Starc – KKR

Mitchell Starc’s injury just ahead of the IPL 2018 was a big blow for KKR. Starc got ruled out of the final test between SA and Australia due to his injury. And now, the franchise has roped in Tom Curran as a replacement for Mitchell Starc.

England fast bowler Tom Curran made his international debut against South Africa in a T20I in June 2017. The 23-year-old pacer has played over 50 T20s including 7 T20Is for the national team.

Curran has taken 53 wickets in 51 matches at a strike rate of under 20.

3. Mitchell McClenaghan replaces Jason Behrendorff-MI

Mumbai Indians have announced Mitchell McClenaghan as their replacement for the injured Jason Behrendorff. Behrendorff has been ruled out of the eleventh edition of IPL due to a back problem.

After initially going unsold at the auctions, McClenaghan has been bought at his base price of Rs 1 crore. McClenaghan has played the last three editions of IPL for MI and has 19 wickets from 14 IPL games.

4. Corey Anderson replaces Nathan Coulter-Nile – RCB

After the Australian pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile suffered an “aggravation” of a previous stress fracture and got ruled out of the IPL 2018, RCB roped in all-rounder Corey Anderson at his base price of 2 crores as a replacement.

Anderson, who has scored 521 runs and scalped 8 wickets in 27 IPL matches has previously played for Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils.

5. Heinrich Klassen replaces Steve Smith- RR

BCCI barred Steve Smith from the upcoming edition of IPL after Cricket Australia imposed a 12-months ban on him for his involvement in the ball tampering controversy.

As per a media report, the South African wicket-keeper has been bought for Rs 50 lakh from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list as a replacement for Steve Smith.

Klaasen made his international debut recently against India in the 50-over format. He was also chosen the Man of the Match award in his second ODI.
