Pravin Tambe is a buzzing name in Mumbai club cricket circuit but it would have been limited to just that had 2013 not happened to him. He was in love with the game of cricket right from the very young age and wanted to become a fast bowler. But his Orient Shipping captain Ajay Kadam encouraged him to try leg-spin. He was holding a job in the daytime while playing club cricket on the weekends. He toiled hard in Mumbai club cricket structure to get recognition but failed to do so for several years.
Pravin Tambe was born on 8 October, 1971 in Mumbai. He was 44 years and 219 days when he made IPL debut. He is the oldest Indian but second oldest player after Brad Hogg (45 years and 92 days) to play in IPL.
Rajasthan Royals’ scouts spotted him and picked him up in the auction at the base price for 2013 season. Later that year, Pravin Tambe grabbed the ‘Golden Wicket award’ in Champions League T20 after he took most wickets in the competition. He took 12 scalps at an average of 6.50 during that competition.
After terrific performance in the T20 format, Pravin Tambe earned his maiden Ranji Trophy call-up for Mumbai. He made his first-class debut against Odisha in December 2013 and played a couple of matches in that season. Following year in 2014, he picked up a magnificent hat-trick against Kolkata Knight Riders at Ahmedabad. He used to be the complete package of control and the wicket-taking ability for any T20 captain.
Since then, Pravin Tambe has played IPL cricket for teams like Gujarat Lions, Sunrisers Hyderabad by providing useful support to the main spinners. He took part in the T10 League in UAE during the 2018 season and as a result of that, he was disqualified from playing IPL 2020 after being picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders in the auction. He will be now seen in action during the CPL 2020 as he will be playing for Trinbago Knight Riders.
